JASON Kell started Enduraclad International in July 2011 by registering the company and leasing factory space of 800 square metres. Lacking even the most basic equipment, he relied on local companies to donate tools and borrowed a plasma cutter.
Within four weeks of this rather low-key beginning, Enduraclad International had won a tender to supply a major mining company with 26 dump truck tray kits. By August that year, Mr Kell had signed contracts with two other companies to be their sole supplier of chromium carbide wearplates.
Within eight months the business had outgrown the original factory space and a second, much larger factory, was leased.
Mr Kell now manages a staff of 20 across both factories and is known for his hands-on, proactive management style. The company is entirely self-funded, including all its plant and equipment, and covers its capital expenses from normal cash flow.
Enduraclad International has a employment program for disabled workers, currently employing one disabled person on a casual basis.
In 2013, Mr Kell raised more than $5,400 for Rocky Bay and he has also sponsored charities such as the Australian Red Cross and the Starlight Foundation.
