Terry O'Connor

Terry O’Connor AM QC became a barrister in 1986, was appointed a Queens Counsel in 1987, and served as Commissioner of the WA Supreme Court and chair of the Anti-Corruption Commission of Western Australia from 1987-2003. He was a senior partner of Stephen Jacques Stone James (now King & Wood Mallesons) and member of the Legal Practice Board. Mr O'Connor was Chancellor of Notre Dame University Australia from 1990 to 2005 and was conferred a Doctor of Laws in 2017. He was part of the Australian Rules Football community as a player, coach and administrator for over 40 years. His extensive involvement in football included more than 250 games for the University Football Club over a 16-year period, establishment of the WA Football Commission, commissioner of the Australian Football League from 1993-2000, chair of the West Coast Eagles for 3 years including the 1992 season when the club won its first premiership, and chair of the taskforce appointed to develop football in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. In 2006, Mr O'Connor was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for services to the legal profession, higher education, health services and the community. He passed away in April 2020, aged 82.
