
The Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) was established on July 1, 2025, following the Western Australian Government's public sector reform initiative.
It is an amalgamation of Industry Regulation and Safety from the former Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, Local Government from the former Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and Racing, Gaming and Liquor including support for Gaming and Wagering Commission from the former Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
The department is comprised of five groups that have been arranged to provide specialist advice. these groups include Corporate Services and Labour Relations; Building, Energy Safety, and Service Delivery; Consumer Protection and Legal Services; WorkSafe; and Local government, racing, gaming and liquor.
