Two major rail freight operators are pursuing growth opportunites in WA’s mining sector.
Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE:CLF) is a major global iron ore producer and a significant producer of high- and low-volatile metallurgical coal. Cliff's core WA asset was the Koolyanobbing mine which it acquired through its subsidiary, Cliffs Asia Pacific Iron Ore Pty Ltd, in 2008, as a result of a Cliffs-Asia take over of Portman Limited. In 2018 the Koolyanobbing mine was sold to Mineral Resources.
