A SUPERBLY crafted Margaret River cabernet sauvignon/merlot from Moss Brothers is due for release soon.
The first official public outing for this red was the Sheraton Wine Awards where the judges were impressed and pointed it only 2.5 behind the gold trophy winner from Gralyn Estate and was close behind the silver trophy winner from Driftwood Estate.
The beauty of this dry red is the wonderful refinement and weight, yet the palate carries all the perfectly balanced charms expected of a fuller-bodied rouge with the dexterity of an aristocrat.
Flawless integration of fine cabernet sauvignon and its mellow, perfumed companion merlot makes for effortless drinking and you would swear the oak was grown on the vines with the grapes because the marriage is so complete.
Margaret River was well served in the reds by the 1999 vintage and as they come to release dates, be sure to search the market place shelves.
The debate on the price of the very limited 1999 Margaret River cabernet sauvignon/merlot is still in full swing at the winery, but my guess is $30 to $35 a bottle.
A perfect red for broiled veal shoulder, done in veal stock, white wine, sage and pickling onions.
