Paul Atherley graduated in mining engineering from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College in 1982 and has over 30 years of industry operating experience including periods with British Coal in the UK and Mount Isa Mines in Australia. He was executive director of the Investment Bank arm of HSBC Australia. In 2003, Mr Atherley brought Leyshon to China as it opened its mining sector to foreign investment. In 2005, he established an office in Beijing and has lived there ever since. He leads a team of Chinese professional staff that have established Leyshon as one of the most successfully junior foreign companies in China. Mr Atherley is a strong supporter of Women in STEM and has established a scholarship which provides funding for young women to further their education in science and engineering.
