A short introduction
Hello, I am Dr David Honey MLA, Member for Cottesloe and Leader of the WA Liberal Party.
Dr David Honey has been the Liberal Party member for Cottesloe in the WA Legislative Assembly since March 2018, following the resignation of former Premier Colin Barnett. He has lived in the Cottesloe electorate for over 33 years.
Dr Honey was appointed Shadow Minister for Water, Industrial Development & Lands under Liza Harvey's Shadow Cabinet in 2019. In the cabinet reshuffle under Zak Kirkup in December 2020, he became Shadow Minister for Energy, Renewables & Hydrogen; Water; Industrial Development; Lands.
At the 2021 state election, Dr Honey was only one of 2 Liberal Party member to hold on to their seats. He became the leader of the Liberal Party of WA and is the Shadow Minister for state development, energy, hydrogen, science, innovation and ICT. He took on the additional role of Shadow Minister for Water in March 2022, as part of the changes to the National-Liberal Alliance Shadow Ministry. In late January 2023, Dr Honey stepped down as leader of the Liberal Party of WA following a leadership contest from his deputy, Libby Mettam. The National-Liberal Alliance was formed in February 2023 and Mr Honey became the Shadow Minister for state development, water, hydrogen, small
business, science, innovation & ICT.
Prior to entering politics, Dr Honey was the global residue manager of Alcoa’s refining operations where he had overall accountability for the refining residue operations in the US, Spain, Brazil and Australia. He spent over 19 years at Alcoa and was president of the Kwinana Industries Council from 2012 to 2018.
