Seafarms Group (formerly Commodities Group) is an ASX-listed producer of prawns in Northern Australia. The company owns Crystal Bay Prawns in Queensland, and is pusuing the development of a land-based prawn farming operation titled Project Seadragon in northern WA and the NT.
Seafarms was acquired by CO2 Group in 2012, which became Commodities Group. In 2015 Commodities Group changed its name to Seafarms Group.
Commencing as Western Australian Resources Limited (WARL) in the year 2005, the company's early history was in minerals exploration and identification of under-allocated and new water resources. In early 2011, WARL embarked on a new business direction to investigate opportunities for new water projects, agribusiness, food development projects and aquaculture. In 2012, having completed a concept study for the development of large-scale aquaculture systems in Australia, WARL’s directors determined that several particular opportunities should be further analysed. Project Sea Dragon was initiated soon after and a formal process of project pre-feasibility studies commenced to assess its viability.
