A mining engineer by profession, Mr Tonkin leads the team at Northern Star Resources, the largest Australian gold producer listed on the ASX.
Graduating from the Western Australian School of Mines and holding a WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate, Mr Tonkin is a passionate advocate for his sector and a sponsor of the next generation of industry leaders.
Mr Tonkin has more than 25 years’ experience in Australia and overseas as both a mining operator and contractor. Prior to joining Northern Star, he held leadership roles at companies including Barminco, Oxiana and Newmont.
Mr Tonkin joined Northern Star as chief operating officer in 2013 before being promoted to chief executive in 2016 and managing director in 2021. During his time with Northern Star he has played a leading role in the company's growth to become an industry leader, employer of choice and member of the ASX50.c
