A JDAP has given the green light to the 33-apartment complex, which was met with some community opposition.
Developer Tim Willing has won development approval for his Coolbinia apartment complex, despite opposition from parts of the community.
The $16 million five-story development at 2-8 Adair Parade is set to contain 33 apartments and five commercial tenancies.
It follows the approval of Willing’s $10.5 million Mount Lawley development earlier this year and adds to the developer’s buildings in the area.
Willing Property is part way through building an apartment and townhouse development on Field Street in Mount Lawley and recently complete its Central Avenue boutique apartment project.
Some nearby residents voiced their opposition to the Coolbinia development, citing concerns about the height of the apartments impacting their privacy.
Additionally, some objections were made to the proposal’s bulk and scale in relation to surrounding developments and to the desired future scale of the area.
The project was approved at a Metro Inner North JDAP today.
Willing Property founder Tim Willing said he was proud to receive the green light for the project.
"We have a passionate highly professional team who began engaging with the City of Stirling in March 2022 for what is an ambitious and beautiful design," he said.
"We believe strongly in the power of good design to lead Perth into a new era of thoughtful place development.
We are confident The Coolbinia will be a marvellous place to call home or visit and will provide a lovely new village centre to the local community and beyond.
MJA Studio designed the development.
The proposal was deferred at an earlier JDAP to allow Willing Property to provide more information about the overlooking into neighbouring properties, waste removal, parking, goods delivery to the commercial premises and traffic impact.
The developer made several changes to its application, including removing the first floor balconies, adding to the setbacks and angling windows to reduce the perception of overlooking.
Willing Property launched its own building arm Willing Build last month, in response to the volatile construction market.
Construction of the Coolbinia development should commence early next year, and will be carried out by Willing Build.
