The Damian Collins-led developer hopes to start building the homes early next year.
Westbridge Urban is set to build 11 townhouses in Como following planning approval for the $16 million development today.
The Metro Inner South Joint Development Panel gave the project the green light at its meeting this morning, following the City of South Perth’s recommendation for approval.
The project comprises 11 two-storey townhouses at 37 Ley Street and 45 Philp Avenue, on sites Westbridge Funds Management acquired earlier this year.
Westbridge Urban chair Damian Collins told Business News the company was in talks with builders and hoped to break ground on the development in early 2024.
“We are aiming to launch them for pre-sale fairly quickly, and we should be on site in the first quarter of next year,” he said.
Westbridge is among the developers focusing on townhouses while the apartment market faces difficulties due to a lack of available builders.
“That’s been our focus the last two years in terms of new product is boutique townhouses,” he said.
“Apartment construction costs were getting out of control, and the townhouse market is much more aligned to the homebuilding market, in terms of the available trades, the trades that can do a single house can generally do a townhouse.”
The townhouses will be priced at between $1.2 to $1.5 million and were designed by architect Daniel Cassettai.
