Wage growth under enterprise bargaining agreements edged up slightly in the June quarter but new government data showed a stark difference between deals reached between public and private sector workers.
The data released by the Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations today showed the average annualised wage increase through collective agreements was 4.1 per cent in the June quarter up from 4.0 per cent in the previous quarter.
However the annualised rate for the private sector jumped 0.4 percentage points to 4.2 per cent in the June quarter but the public sector it dropped 0.9 percentage points to 3.5 per cent.
Overall the outcomes were more or less in line with more up-to-date data that show wages growth a little under four per cent a comfort for the Reserve Bank of Australia ahead of Tuesday's final board meeting of the year.
