Two WAFL clubs have secured Perth Football League grand final hosting rights for the next three seasons.
West Perth and Swan Districts have successfully bid for Perth Football League grand final partnership rights over the next three seasons.
HIF Health Insurance Oval, formerly known as Arena Joondalup and home of the Falcons since 1994, will host the A-Grade men’s and women’s grand finals, along with B-Grade decider, to complement its already impressive schedule over the next month.
Swan Districts’ home ground, Steel Blue Oval, will host the C1 men’s, C1 reserves and Ian Dargie colts grand finals over the next three seasons.
Falcons chief executive Joe McCarthy said the partnership was an important one for the club.
“The West Perth Football Club is excited to have secured a three-year partnership with the Perth Football League to deliver the A-Grade women's and men's finals as well as the B Grade Men's,” he said.
“The connection between community football and WAFL is a focus area of our club, and we believe this will strengthen these ties.
“We look forward to opening our great facility to the finalists and watching some high-quality football.”
The Falcons boss said the process of club volunteers doing their bit across the month was also under way.
"I think it was yesterday (Monday) my ops manager was starting to put together the volunteer staff plan and roster," Mr McCarthy said.
"And you see all the same names who understand that by helping us in these non-WAFL games, from a financial perspective they absolutely help us as well.
"So they understand that and all hands on deck. At the footy club, we're blessed with a fantastic volunteer group."
This follows on from news last month that the PFL had signed a finals naming rights deal with Budget Car and Truck Rental, beginning from the 2025 campaign.
Last year, the men’s A-Grade grand final between Trinity Aquinas and Kingsway, also held at HIF Health Insurance Oval had 5386 stream plays, and a crowd of approximately 3500.
Throughout 2025, the Falcons have changed up the timeslots of their home games, with the majority starting at either 3.10pm or 7.10pm.
To date, five of the club’s 10 home games have confirmed attendances over 2000 people. Three of their home games this season – against East Fremantle, East Perth and Subiaco – have yet to have been publicly recorded by the WAFL or WA Football, the state’s governing body.
Mr McCarthy said overall the Falcons had made progress in relation to different home game timeslots.
"We committed to giving night football a red hot crack - and we've definitely learned some lessons with it," he told Business News.
"So for example, the 7.10pm game, what we've learned is this is even a fraction too late.
"Some families, by the time they finish, it's a bit late for some young kids. So I think strategically, we'll move those couple of night games maybe back to a 6pm start next year.
"And look, it's a balancing act.
"It definitely does produce some new people around the club and young families. And we've also got to make sure we support our traditional members to, who have grown up with standard, traditional 2.15-2.30pm bouncedown.
"It's a fine line of making sure that we support our existing members who've supported us for a long time and then we create new experiences for some new members.
"I think next year, we'll absolutely nail the balance. This year was some test cases, which came back positive.
"I'm looking forward to next year and really solidifying game times, experiences for both new and old fans."
Jarrad Wright, who was appointed CEO of Swan Districts on July 18 - succeeding longstanding sports administrator Jeff Dennis - told Business News that the opportunity for Steel Blue Oval to host game was also important for the black and whites.
"These fixtures are always a highlight of the season and it’s a privilege for Swan Districts to provide a stage where players, coaches and supporters can enjoy such important occasions.
"Steel Blue Oval holds a special place in the WA football community and we’re proud to continue playing a role in showcasing the talent and spirit of the game. We look forward to working closely with the PFL to deliver outstanding experiences for all involved.
"We wish all teams the very best for success."
