The Western Australian Cricket Association's board has voted in favour to push ahead with the $155 million redevelopment of the sporting code’s ground.
The WACA confirmed the board voted in favour to progress the long-awaited major redevelopment of its East Perth precinct at its meeting on Tuesday night.
The redevelopment would see the construction of a high-performance cricket centre, a public aquatic pool, health and fitness facilities, an all-abilities playground, and event and function spaces.
The major project was initially tipped to cost about $75 million, before blowing out several times to $154.7 million due to rising costs and COVID-induced delays.
The board’s approval is subject to government and other approvals, which are expected to be finalised by the end of the week.
The WACA Improvement Project is part of the $1.7 billion Perth City Deal, which is jointly funded by the federal and state governments, City of Perth, WA Cricket and Cricket Australia.
Early works commenced in August 2021, with the overall project expected to be completed this time next year.
