The state government has committed $52 million towards road safety projects with more than 100 locations in Western Australia to be upgraded.
WA's black spot program will receive $22 million while the remaining $30 million will go towards the safer roads program.
The state government today announced the funding boost, which will upgrade more than 100 locations in WA including 63 in regional areas.
This includes more than $3 million to install safety barriers along Roe Highway, from Nicholson Road to South Street and from Kenwick Link to Orrong Road.
The $30 million safer road program funding pool will go towards regional road upgrades including the South Western Highway, Bussell Highway, Vasse Highway, and Pinjarra Williams Road.
Almost $8 million will be invested into South Western Highway to build a roundabout at Vittoria Road and a right turn lane at Government Road, among other upgrades.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the projects were additional to the $1 billion regional road safety program which covers upgrades to 10,000 kilometres of WA’s road network by mid-2025.
“This $52 million injection will help deliver more than 100 projects across the state – critical upgrades like new safety barriers, sealed shoulders, roundabouts and traffic signals,” she said.
Local governments around the state will contribute a total of $6 million towards road safety projects, the state government announced.
“Unfortunately, deaths on regional roads are again over-represented in the fatalities data for the year-to-date, but we are working hard with road safety improvements such as these along with the regional road safety program to make our roads as safe as possible,” Road Safety Minister David Michael said.
