Western Australia has recorded 13 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 overnight, including another five mystery cases.
This morning, WA Health confirmed eight of the new cases had been linked to known clusters, but that the source of the remaining five was under investigation.
With some of the cases understood to have been infectious while in the community, contact tracers are now working to determine potential public exposure sites.
So far, a further 10 locations have been added to the state's growing list of exposure sites, including cafes in Cannington and Shelley and restaurants and nightclubs throughout Perth's CBD.
All cases are now in quarantine.
The state has also recorded a further 11 cases among returned interstate travellers, bringing the total number of active cases in WA to 166.
Of those, 156 are in self quarantine and one is in hospital.
The news follows the official implementation of the state’s vaccination rules yesterday, which are understood to be among the broadest in the nation.
From yesterday, the unvaccinated were barred from hospitals and aged care facilities, hospitality venues, indoor entertainment centres, bottle shops, the entire Crown Perth complex, gyms, amusement parks, the Perth Zoo and music festivals.
The change was met with calls for support from the state’s opposition, with Shadow treasurer Steve Thomas labelling the state government’s monitoring and compliance “a farce” and saying most businesses had been left to police themselves.
