Leading-edge mining companies are recognising Roborigger as a must-have on their worksites to improve the safety and efficiency of their crane lifting operations.
The wireless load controlling technology, developed by Perth-based Roborigger Pty Ltd, won three awards at the WA Innovator of the Year last year with sponsors including Rio Tinto and South32.
With Roborigger units available commercially Australia-wide and being used in the commercial construction industry, founder Derick Markwell said the company is now working to gain more traction in the mining and resources industries.
"We have been receiving an outpouring of interest from major mining companies locally and globally and now we're working with them to make sure we have the right functionality."
"Rio Tinto is especially interested in the image recognition we're developing for Roborigger. This system will allow the unit to detect personnel below the load and this will assist with the development of improved lifting practices."
"Most recently, Roborigger was trialled by Monadelphous on an FMG shutdown at Port Hedland and the feedback we have received was 100 percent positive."
The company is now in discussions to send Roborigger units to a Newmont mine site in the Northern Territory as well as to sites in the goldfields.
“We believe this incredible interest signals the industry’s confidence in Roborigger, not only to revolutionize safety but also in its massive potential to use the logged lifting data to track all logistics operation and improve the productivity of the lifting operation”, added Markwell, highlighting that the internet-connected monitoring and tracking software comes free with all Roboriggers.
The built-in software collects data from every lift including time, weight, location, and image of the load being lifted.
“This means the loads can be tracked real-time and the efficiency of operations can be analysed and improved.”
