Perth-based NXT TEC has received its fifth US patent, this time for its NXT Spacedeck prefabricated concrete design for high rise buildings.
The Spacedeck design uses large, hollow balls positioned between reinforced steel mesh within concrete – cutting concrete usage by up to 25 per cent while maintaining its strength.
It also removes the need for onsite concrete pouring and scaffoldings, cutting construction times and reducing waste.
The new patent comes after NXT TEC in October revealed it had signed a deal with US-based engineering, research and services company M2i.
As part of the partnership, M2i will help facilitate licensing deals for the NXT Building System – a collection of 11 NXT technologies, including Spacedeck – for use by builders in the US.
NXT TEC chair Natasha Di Ciano said the company’s innovative designs would disrupt traditional methods of construction in the industry.
“The NXT Spacedeck aligns with our strategy to bring fast, eco-friendly solutions to meet the needs of the current housing crisis being faced across the globe,” she said.
“This latest patent strategy is a critical pillar of our plans to expand into the US market, alongside our partner, M2i Global, we are excited to bring our revolutionary building technology to the United States.”
It’s a coup for NXT, which has made headlines in recent times including for their involvement in building a $200 million, 26-room mansion in the Shire of Chittering.
The sprawling 40,000 square metre home, to be known as ‘Madalyn Manor’ will include a helipad, underground car garage, several ground level and rooftop pools and extensive gardens, and is the brainchild of architect and NXT Building Systems inventor Mataki O’Goshi Lim.
NXT Tec is separately seeking to build a luxury golf resort on a neighbouring plot of land to Madalyn Manor in Chittering.
And the Spacedeck system will also be used in the upcoming construction of Wyndham LUX Perth, an eight-storey luxury hotel.
The company gained state government approval in 2019 and local government approval in 2021.
