After shedding its non-core assets to focus on the Dragon & Knight nickel projects in the Goldfields, Tyranna Resources is pulling out all stops to set some smart drill targets. The company said this week it has unearthed a trove of historical geophysical survey datasets that have led to at least two priority targets being identified at Lightning Gossan and the east-west trending regional dykes.
Lightning Gossan has anomalous nickel geochemistry at the site of the gossan and in the surrounding area which Tyranna’s field crew is planning to follow up. The company said a re-working of some historical geophysical data now shows a magnetic anomaly that lines up with the anomalous geochemistry at Lightning Gossan.
Shallow drilling there turned up some interesting nickel mineralisation with a 4m zone grading 1,925ppm nickel from just 16m down hole, indicating that there is nickel in the system, the source of which has remained elusive to date.
Tyranna said the east-west trending geological dykes to be targeted are just 30-40km along strike from St George Mining’s impressive nickel sulphide hits at the Mt Alexander nickel project.
Interestingly Tyranna has dredged up various geophysical data sets gleaned from Government archives and other public sources that will be used to form a geological model for its tenements.
The company’s technical experts have pieced together the aeromagnetic, gravity, radiometrics and EM data to clearly define the targets that will also be further locked down after the upcoming geological field work.
Tyranna said it plans to undertake geological mapping and surface sampling at all three prospects, Lightning Gossan, Dragon and Knight and it is likely that it will also turn to further EM surveys to refine the targets.
The Giuseppe [Joe] Graziano-led Tyranna said that historically, minimal modern-day exploration had been completed targeting nickel sulphides in the Dragon and Knight project areas and especially within the younger Proterozoic mafic dykes. It said the planned initial exploration aims to validate conceptual targeting rationale and identify priority targets for further exploration.
