Two senior figures have revealed departures from Andrew and Nicola Forrest’s investment arm Tattarang in recent weeks, but the organisation says both will remain part of its sprawling business interests.
Tattarang and Minderoo general counsel Jason Ricketts left his role in December, after four years.
He will be followed by external affairs and communications executive director Anthony Flannery, who will relocate to New South Wales in March for a high-profile role with the local police force.
The company confirmed both departures to Business News.
Tattarang chief executive John Hartman – who stood down from the board in September but remains head of the company – said both men would stay part of the broader network.
Mr Ricketts will continue as a director at wholly owned companies, renewables play Squadron Energy and nickel miner Wyloo. Tattarang and Minderoo deputy general counsel Suzy Montandon has been appointed acting general counsel while recruitment is carried out.
“I want to thank Jason for his service as general counsel of Minderoo and Tattarang over the past four years and look forward to him contributing an important role on the boards of companies which are working to decarbonise Australia and the world,” Mr Hartman said.
Mr Flannery, once head of news at Ten, will continue as chairman of the Tattarang-funded Western Force from the east coast.
“After five years in Perth, Anthony Flannery is making a move back to Sydney,” Mr Hartman said.
“I’d like to thank Anthony for his work with Tattarang and Minderoo and congratulate him on his new role.”
Tattarang’s business empire includes Squadron, Wyloo, bootmaker RM Williams, hatmaker Akubra, agribusiness firm Harvest Road Group, Fiveight and the Force.
It also has stakes in Fortescue, naval shipbuilder Austal, Bega Cheese and Australian Agricultural Company, among others.
A spate of departures from Andrew Forrest founded and chaired Fortescue over 2023 and 2024 have heightened interest in the Forrest business empire.
Tattarang and its affiliated businesses have not been immune to turnover – though it is notable that both Mr Flannery and Mr Ricketts will each maintain an involvement within the group.
The private office farewelled former CFO Bree Fraser, COO Stephen Daly and Harvest Road boss Paul Slaughter in 2023.
Julie Shuttleworth, Guy Debelle, Christine Morris, Malcolm Turnbull, Michael Gunner, Deborah Caudle and Fiona Hick are among the high-profile names to have departed from Fortescue since 2023.
Ms Fraser was replaced by former Deloitte director and HBF Health CFO Donna Carrington in July 2024.
In October 2024, Andrew and Nicola Forrest revealed they would hand over the reins as Minderoo Foundation co-chairs to Allan Myers.
Tattarang is the second-largest family office in Western Australia according to Data & Insights.
