Crown Resorts chief executive Ciarán Carruthers will depart the company, with former Crown Perth chief executive David Tsai to step into the role from September.
A statement from Crown on Monday said Mr Carruthers had decided it was an appropriate time to depart the company, having steered it since Blackstone acquired it in 2022.
“Under Ciarán’s leadership, Crown has achieved critical milestones including a whole of business transformation and remediation program, the introduction of cashless gaming, mandatory carded play and the successful implementation of its world leading Crown PlaySafe harm minimisation program,” Crown Resorts chair John Borghetti said.
“Ciarán’s leadership and contribution has been highly valued, and we wish him every success in the future.”
Mr Carruthers began his career in Macau at Galaxy Entertainment Group in 2002, as the chief operating officer of Waldo casino.
He was appointed senior vice president of Venetian Resorts and Plaza Casino from 2013 to 206, before becoming chief operating officer of Wynn Macau Resort in January 2017.
He departed Wynn to join Crown in September 2022.
Mr Carruthers joined Crown shortly after the release of the final report of the Perth Casino Royal Commission.
Handed down in March 2022, the 994-page document found Crown Perth and its subsidiaries unfit to hold the state’s only casino licence but stopped short of recommending the licence be revoked.
In 2023, Crown Perth and Melbourne agreed to a $450 million fine as part of an agreed penalty for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism breaches following a 15-month investigation by AUSTRAC.
Crown was acquired by investment giant Blackstone in mid-2022 for approximately $9 billion.
Former Crown Perth chief executive David Tsai will step into the acting chief executive role, from his chief operating officer role.
Mr Tsai started at Crown Perth in December 2022, moving to Australia from Michigan, where he was the Midwest group president of MGM Resorts International for almost three years.
Prior to MGM Resorts International, Mr Tsai was the president and chief operating officer at MGM Grand Detroit and MGM Northfield Park.
