In the heart of Western Australia’s Goldfields, CPC Engineering began in 1970 as a small workshop in Kambalda, founded by Peter Bowman.
Focused on supporting the mining sector, the company quickly became a trusted partner for maintenance and fabrication, serving major clients like Western Mining Corporation.
Through the 1980s and 1990s, CPC diversified its offerings, adding machine shops, stainless steel fabrication, and a fleet of mobile cranes and vehicles. These expansions allowed CPC to take on more complex underground maintenance and construction projects, cementing its reputation for reliability and expertise.
By the late 1990s, CPC had grown to a workforce of 35 with a broad range of equipment. Strategic expansions in Kambalda, Kalgoorlie and Ravensthorpe, along with the recruitment of industry leaders, enabled the company to enhance its capabilities and meet increasing demand.
In the 2000s, CPC broadened its reach across Western Australia, growing its workforce and client base significantly. The opening of a Project Design office in Perth in 2011, followed by Construction and Maintenance divisions in the Pilbara and Karratha, strengthened CPC’s statewide footprint.
Today, CPC operates offices and workshops across Western Australia, offering a vertically integrated range of services including metallurgical test work, process engineering, feasibility studies, design, project management, construction, commissioning, asset management, and maintenance. This integration ensures seamless delivery from concept to ongoing support, reducing handover risks, improving reliability, and delivering long-term value.
Chief Executive Officer Glen Weir says this model is central to CPC’s reputation.
“Our vertically integrated model means we can manage the entire project lifecycle with consistency and control. It allows us to be responsive, practical, and trusted to get the job done right the first time.”
From its earliest days, CPC’s success has been shaped not just by projects, but by people. What started as a close-knit team in Kambalda has grown into a workforce of more than 300 across Western Australia, with apprentices, tradespeople, engineers and leaders working side by side.
Mr Weir is clear on the importance of this focus. “Our people are the heart and soul of CPC,” he says.
“That’s why we work hard to attract talented individuals, invest in training, and maintain family values even as we grow and adapt. We want CPC to be a place where people care about each other, care about our clients, and care about results.”
Local employment and skills development remain priorities, ensuring CPC’s teams bring both technical expertise and regional knowledge to every project.
Safety has always been non-negotiable at CPC, but in recent years it has become an even deeper part of the company’s culture. The Safer by Choice program, led by senior leadership, goes beyond compliance to embed behavioural safety across the organisation.
“Safety starts with strong processes,” says Mr Weir, “but it’s ultimately culture that makes the difference.”
This mindset supports CPC’s goal of zero harm and reflects its broader commitment to the wellbeing of people and communities.
Alongside its people, partnerships have been central to CPC’s growth. Over decades of project delivery, the company has built long-standing relationships with tier-one operators including BHP and Woodside, as well as a broad range of mid-tier and emerging companies. These partnerships are founded on trust, respect and responsiveness.
“We aim to understand our clients’ challenges and deliver practical, cost-effective solutions,” Mr Weir explains.
“That’s how we’ve built trust that lasts decades.”
CPC’s agility and proven track record have made it a preferred partner across a wide range of commodities and project scopes, from sustaining capital works to major infrastructure projects.
CPC’s regional presence is more than geographic, it’s a reflection of its commitment to the communities where it operates. By hiring locally, partnering with regional subcontractors, and investing in apprenticeships, the company directly supports local economies.
The Karratha division is one example, with 30 staff on the ground supported by Perth-based expertise and a network of regional contractors. This structure ensures projects are delivered not only efficiently but also with meaningful community involvement.
A significant part of CPC’s story in recent years has been its work to create genuine opportunities for Indigenous participation in the resources sector. The Birndirri joint venture with Koorbee Group brings together Indigenous cultural knowledge and CPC’s engineering expertise to deliver integrated services across the full project lifecycle.
In addition, CPC is a proud partner in First Nations Engineering, which combines Indigenous leadership with CPC’s technical capability to open new pathways for careers and business opportunities in engineering.
“Our partnerships are about more than just business,” Mr Weir says.
“They’re about building trust, sharing knowledge, and delivering outcomes that matter to communities.”
As CPC has expanded its reach, its purpose has sharpened. The company’s mission is to add value in everything it does through fully integrated engineering solutions, to exceed client expectations on every site, and to create an environment where its people can thrive.
This mission is guided by a vision to be the first choice for engineering design, construction and maintenance services, trusted across Australia and beyond for expertise, reliability and results.
With more than 55 years of experience, CPC is well positioned for the future. Sustainability and ESG performance are embedded across the business, from lowering operating costs and improving plant reliability to reducing environmental impact. Innovation and adaptability remain central to meeting the evolving needs of the resources sector.
“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, but we’re even more excited about the future,” says Mr Weir.
“We will continue to grow, innovate, and partner with our clients to ensure they gain the most value from their projects.”
As CPC celebrates over 55 years, the company remains committed to quality, innovation, and integrity.
With a forward-thinking approach and strong foundation, CPC Engineering continues to go beyond; shaping the future of Australian engineering, delivering trusted solutions tailored to the unique challenges of the mining and resources sector.
