Toro on target with fourth massive nickel sulphides discovery

Toro Energy has continued its run of impressive results at the company’s Dusty nickel project in Western Australia with the discovery of a fourth massive nickel sulphide zone from its ongoing diamond drill campaign.

The latest discovery, named Dimma, was highlighted after a recent diamond drill hole hit a 3.6m section of massive sulphides from 244.1m.

Toro says portable X-ray fluorescence analysis of the 3.6m intersection indicates grades between 1.45 and 3.66 per cent nickel.

Two other intersections of semi-massive nickel sulphides about 20cm thick were also discovered in the same hole.

The Dusty project falls within Toro’s fully owned Yandal gold project in WA’s north-eastern Goldfields.

Toro says the Dimma discovery highlights the nickel-sulphide prospectivity of the Dusty komatiite that has a strike length of at least 7.5km.

The latest result is from the first hole drilled 400m south-south-east of the recent Jumping Jack discovery, leaving the Dimma mineralisation open in all directions.

Jumping Jack was discovered early last month with a 3.4m intersection from 240.3m including a 1.4m-thick lens of massive nickel sulphides.

The company says the two recent massive-sulphide zones are in the same stratigraphic position as the Houli Dooley and the original Dusty discovery to the north.

Toro Energy Executive Chairman, Richard Homsany said: “We are very excited to announce the discovery of Dimma, Toro’s fourth discovery of massive and semi-massive nickel sulphides on our Dusty nickel project. These excellent nickel discoveries continue and the project’s value is advancing after multiple discoveries.”

Geochemical sampling of the mineralised core found at Dimma is now underway, however the company says because of industry-wide delays in laboratories throughout Australia assay results are not expected until later this year.

Toro says its drill rig will remain in place to test for further nickel sulphide hits between 20 and 30m downdip of the Dimma intersection.

The Dusty project is just 50km east of BHP’s world-class Mt Keith nickel deposit.

The Geological Survey of WA recently ranked Mt Keith as number two for nickel resources, behind Ardea Resources’ Kalgoorlie nickel project.

While results have been impressive for Toro at the Dusty nickel project, the company says it is also making steady progress with its scoping study for the evaluation of a standalone Lake Maitland uranium-vanadium mining operation.

The Lake Maitland uranium deposit is just one of four deposits that form part of Toro’s fully owned Wiluna uranium project in WA’s northern Goldfields region, 710km north-east of Perth.

With the nickel discoveries all named after AFL footballers and a coach from the Richmond Football Club, the company is no doubt hoping the prospects can deliver glory to its investors in the same way the team did to the Tigers fans.
