Strike Energy has attracted ex-FMG iron ore heavyweight, Nev Power, to its board as the company approaches its moment of truth in the Perth oil and gas basin with production testing of its West Erregulla-2 gas well all set to begin.
Mr Power has been appointed Deputy Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Strike at arguably its most critical period as it attempts to become Western Australia’s next gas producer.
Chairman John Poynton said that Mr Power had a distinguished track record of converting strategically important resources into industry-leading, highly profitable businesses.
Earlier this month, Strike identified a significant pay zone of conventional gas in the Perth Basin, which it said could potentially support a low-cost development in the region, particularly as it is located so close to the Dampier-Bunbury gas pipeline.
Mr Power said: “Strike’s strategic land position in the Perth Basin and operatorship of the West Erregulla gas fields provide a foundation for becoming a major influencer in Australian gas markets.”
“I look forward to working with both the Board and management in developing a strategy which can see Strike realise its full value and establish a new highly competitive gas supplier in WA”.
Mr Power is also the Chair of the Perth Airport and the Foundation for the WA Museum.
His 7-year stewardship of FMG saw the company quadruple its iron ore production and position itself as the lowest cost supplier of the commodity into China.
With a string of business accolades under his belt including WA Business Leader of the Year in 2016, Mr Power looks well placed to dust off his contact book for the benefit of Strike as it enters its next phase which may well involve commercial production.
