St George drilling again at Mt Alexander nickel play

Wet conditions in the north-eastern goldfields are finally clearing, allowing St George Mining to get underway this week with its much-anticipated drill program at the Mt Alexander nickel-copper project near Leonora.

The emerging nickel company set the market alight last November with a series of impressive nickel-copper hits from the Stricklands prospect at Mt Alexander, located on a southern extension of the famous Mt Keith-Agnew nickel belt.

The best result included an impressive 17.5m intersection grading 3.01% nickel, 1.31% copper, 0.13% cobalt and 1.68 g/t total PGEs from a depth of just 37.5m.

Follow up holes also produced encouraging results, however Stricklands has not been fully tested and investors are eager to see results from the next phase of drilling.

The new drill program beginning this week involves 20 diamond and RC holes for 2,510m. The primary objective is to test for extensions of a thick channel of mineralised ultramafic rocks encountered in the discovery hole and an earlier hole to the south.

The program will drill test EM anomalies in under-explored areas, including the first ever deep drilling of EM targets at the Investigators prospect.

St George Mining executive chairman, John Prineas, said: “Drilling in 2017 intersected thick massive nickel-copper sulphides at each of the Stricklands, Investigators and Cathedrals prospects. We are excited to be commencing our 2018 drill program at Mt Alexander to follow-up on last year’s success.

“At Stricklands, nine drill holes were completed last year to follow up the outstanding intersection in MAD71 and of those, seven drill holes intersected nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation. The high strike rate provides confidence that further drilling at Stricklands will continue to identify mineralised ultramafic.”
