WA’s startup Spacecubed has been bolstered by a $900,000 Lotterywest funding injection to continue their work growing the local innovation sector.
The cash follows $5.9 million already allocated to Spacecubed by Lotterywest over the past three years, which has been used to establish the Innovative Society Initiative.
The funds have also been used by Spacecubed to award 64 grants, worth a total of $1.69 million, to assist local innovation initiatives including the Great Southern Hackathon, First National Innovation Hub scoping study and the Female Founder Festival.
Innovation and Digital Economy minister Stephen Dawson welcomed the latest round of funding support from Lotterywest, saying it would help local innovators to adapt and scale their businesses.
"This $900,000 funding grant by Lotterywest is a welcome helping hand as we continue to build WA's innovative landscape and ecosystem,” he said.
"Targeted funding, like this from Lotterywest, provides another significant step towards implementing the Cook Government's vision for WA to become a global centre of innovation, investment, research and impact.
"The work being done at Spacecubed is assisting our local innovation industry by ensuring WA talent and ideas are fostered right here in the State and stay in Western Australia.”
The funding allocation followed a $5 million cash splash to several WA startups via the Future Health Research and Innovation Seed Fund on Tuesday.
The latest round of grants brings the total allocated under the Innovation Seed fund to almost $20 million across 37 grants since 2022.
