Established Perth builder Simsai Construction Group allegedly owes almost $3.5 million to the tax office which is pursuing legal action to wind up the company.
Osborne Park-based Simsai Construction Group failed to comply with a statutory demand to pay a $3.42 million debt issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, Business News can reveal.
The homebuilder, which operates four other brands in WA, was hit with a winding up order on the grounds of insolvency last month and will face the Federal Court in mid-November.
According to court documents obtained by this masthead, Simsai failed to comply with the statutory demand served by its unpaid creditor the tax office in June.
The construction company allegedly owes unpaid income taxes and superannuation debts dating back to 2017.
Simsai will face the Federal Court next month, which could result in liquidators being appointed if the winding up order is granted.
The builder also owns Express Homes WA, MultiDevelop 360, First Home Buyers Direct and Pottier Developments, according to ASIC.
First Home Buyers Direct claims to be “one of the best first home builders in Perth” while Pottier Developments is marketed as a luxury high-end Perth home builder, according to SCG's websites.
MultiDevelop 360 claims to specialise in Perth property investments while Express Homes WA says it specialises in efficiently building homes through offering 22 week builds.
In 2021-22 the homebuilder commenced 113 projects and Christoper Pottier is listed as the group’s general manager and director, according to Data & Insights.
Simsai describes itself as a “true gem in the West Australian construction scene, thanks in no small part to our dedicated and hard-working staff”, according to its website.
“As a trusted and respected brand, we boast a diverse portfolio of innovative brands that consistently deliver high-quality built homes, from single-story to multi-development projects,” Simsai said.
Simsai has been contacted for comment.
