Si6 Metals has kicked off a follow-up air-core drilling program at the company’s Monument gold project in WA’s Goldfields region. The 120-hole campaign will probe 6000m across four high-priority target areas as the company looks to build on wide zones of gold mineralisation encountered in May. About a quarter of the air-core volley will be aimed at potential extensions of Glencore’s proximal world-class Murrin Murrin nickel laterite operation to the south-west.
The company ran an air-core drilling campaign over the project’s North Well prospect back in May and discovered broad zones of anomalous gold mineralisation above 0.1 grams per tonne. A peak result of 4m grading 1.84 g/t was returned within an 8m hit going 0.98 g/t from 86m downhole. Mineralisation at the prospect remains open along strike to the north-west and south-east.
Other high-priority targets to be tested in the program include the project’s Fred’s Well prospect and southern extensions to the Korong felsic intrusive, a prospective rock unit. At Fred’s Well – 5km north of North Well – previous surface sampling over a 700m strike length returned a number of samples ranging from 1 g/t up to 39.3 g/t gold. Drilling in 2017 testing the Korong rock unit – 3km south-east of Fred’s Well – intersected anomalous gold mineralisation, including 5m at 0.48 g/t.
The company believes its project also has significant potential for nickel and cobalt mineralisation given its location just 20km north-east of Glencore’s world-class Murrin Murrin laterite nickel-cobalt operation. From available geophysics, the company has interpreted one of the units hosting Murrin Murrin to extend onto its ground. Si6 has allocated 1600m of the 6000m of planned drilling to test for an extension of the world-class geology at Murrin-Murrin.
The company anticipates its drilling campaign to be completed by early November, at which point the samples will be submitted to the lab in Kalgoorlie.
Si6 Metals’ Monument project covers 310 square kilometres in WA’s highly-prospective and world-class Laverton Gold District. Of serious note are the 8-million-ounce Granny Smith and the 9-million-ounce Sunrise Dam gold mines just 40km and 50km to the south-east respectively.
The prolific district is said to contain some 30 million ounces of gold, pegging it as the second-highest gold-endowed district behind Kalgoorlie.
