ASX-listed Radiopharm Theranostics will be showcasing the potential of one of its tumour-blasting products that target the deadly pancreatic cancer at a key meeting of nuclear medicine experts in Spain next month.
A lecture outlining the first clinical experience of Ga68-Integrin will be delivered at the 35th Annual Congress of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine, or “EANM” by a nuclear medicine expert from Dresden university hospital in Germany.
Radiopharm, one of the many initiatives of biotech doyen Paul Hopper, is focused on fighting cancer through innovative radiopharmaceutical therapies in areas of high unmet medical needs.
One technology in Radiopharm’s armoury focuses on the avꞵ6 Integrin, found in various cancers including pancreatic, head-and-neck and some lung cancers.
Integrins are a class of cellular biomarkers or proteins involved in the adhesion of cells to each other.
AVꞵ6, invented by a member of Radiopharm’s scientific advisory board, is a strong ligand or molecule that works well with Gallium-68 in radiolabelling. Radiopharm’s technology seeks to track the movement of the target molecules lit up during Positron Emission Tomography, or “PET” scans.
In August last year, even before it listed on the ASX, Radiopharm entered into an exclusive licence agreement with TRIMT to develop radiopharmaceuticals including Ga68-Integrin.
TRIMT is located near Dresden in “Radiopharmaceutical Valley” of Germany – so-called because of the concentration of radiopharmaceutical knowledge and activity.
Next month’s lecture, to be given in a session on new radiopharmaceutical trials in the scientific program of EANM, is a watershed moment in the Radiopharm-TRIMT partnership.
EANM focuses on the newest trends and findings in nuclear medicine and is promoted as the most valuable nuclear medicine meeting worldwide. This year’s event will comprise more than 150 sessions, 7000 participants and 180 companies and will be held across five days in Barcelona, Spain.
In addition, a clinical evaluation by a team from the same university of Ga68-Integrin in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, a highly aggressive lethal malignancy, was selected for the EANM Congress Highlights.
