The search for an experienced operator is on after Perth Airport announced plans for its first hotel development, which is set to offer 250 rooms for visitors.
Perth Airport chief property officer Dan Sweet said a hotel in the central precinct had been part of the airport’s master planning for many years.
A consolidation of commercial air services to the Airport Central precinct near terminals 1 and 2 is also underway.
“Consolidation will make it easier for all passengers to seamlessly connect between regional, domestic, and international destinations,” Mr Sweet said.
“A hotel located within walking distance of terminal infrastructure means that international and interstate visitors have a convenient place to stay as they wait for their regional connection to one of our wonderful tourism destinations.
“Perth Airport needs to grow with WA’s aviation and tourism sectors and a hotel on airport is a big part of this.”
The proposed hotel comprises 250 rooms and suites and will be built next to Metronet’s airport central station, which has a 12-minute train to the Perth CBD.
CBRE head of capital markets WA Aaron Desange said they were seeking a well-established and regarded hotel operator with experience in leading airport accommodation.
“We are confident in delivering a successful outcome for Perth Airport and feel that this will be a highly sought-after opportunity,” he said.
The hotel announcement comes after a string of other proposed developments at the airport, including a lounge by Fremantle-based Otherside Brewery, set to open in Terminal 2 by mid-2023.
“Perth Airport directly contributes $3.5 billion to the Western Australian economy and this development will be a great addition to our business and property portfolio,” Mr Sweet said.
“We are working with global leader in property development CBRE and we are now seeking proposals from hotel management companies to operate the future hotel development located at Airport Central.”
Perth Airport engaged DKO Architecture to design the proposed hotel.
“Our design will reflect Western Australia's unique beauty with materials and forms inspired by its landscapes, providing a memorable and warm welcome to visitors from all over the world,” DKO Perth studio director Dennis Chew said.
DKO design director Jesse Linardi said this would be the firm’s first hotel project on the west coast after working on a number of hotels in the eastern states.
