Allen & Overy has promoted David Jenaway to partner in its Perth litigation team. Dr Jenaway joined A&O in 2014 as a senior associate, after six years with Herbert Smith Freehills. He mainly practises in disputes involving the energy, resources, and construction sectors.
Ashurst has promoted Perth lawyer Catherine Pedler to partner. Ms Pedler was previously counsel in the firm’s dispute resolution team. She originally joined Ashurst (then Blake Dawson) in 2002. Ms Pedler moved to London firm Mayer Brown in 2007, but returned to Ashurst as a senior associate in 2010. Also promoted to partner was Justin Jones in the Melbourne office’s competition team. Mr Jones was until recently based in Perth.
Lawyers On Demand’s managing director, Australia Sandra Gibson will relocate from Perth to London in October following her promotion to global head, people and corporate operations. Ms Gibson joined Balance Legal, which merged with Sydney-based Advent Lawyers in 2012 and London-based LOD in 2016, as chief operating officer in 2010. She was previously general manager, human resources for former ASX200 company Great Southern, following more than 13 years in senior HR management roles with Freehills.
Deloitte has recruited Mark Upton as leader of its WA tax R&D practice. Mr Upton was previously a partner in EY’s R&D team, where he has worked for more than 16 years. The previous WA R&D leader at Deloitte, Ron van Beek, recently retired from the firm after nine years.
CBH Group has appointed Stephanie Unwin general manager, transformation & technology. Ms Unwin was until recently chief executive at Phylogica. She joined Phylogica in 2016 as a non-executive director, while she was still with Synergy as chief transformation officer and general manager, commercial, before becoming chair later that year. Midway through last year, Ms Unwin left Synergy to take the reins at Phylogica. However, she left the organisation last month during a significant restructure of its board and executive.
The Royal Automobile Club of WA has appointed Andrew Crane as a director of RACWA Holdings, which controls RAC’s subsidiary businesses. Mr Crane was chief executive of CBH Group from 2009 to 2017. For the final four of those years, he also served as chair of the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals, a role RAC chief Terry Agnew now holds. Mr Crane is a member of the Curtin University council.
Fremantle-based St Patricks Community Support Centre has appointed Michael Piu chief executive to replace Steve McDermott, who is retiring after 17 years in the role. A 2013 40under40 winner, Mr Piu has served as deputy chief executive for three years, after joining the organisation as chief operating officer in 2009. He is also chair of Imagined Futures, formerly the South West Metropolitan Partnership Forum.
Asterisk Information Security has appointed Peter Hannay senior security consultant. He joins the Asterisk security testing team, providing penetration testing and vulnerability assessment services. Mr Hannay previously held the role of Teaching and Research Scholar at Edith Cowan University.
AV Partners has promoted Daniel Watters to partner at Crown Perth. Mr Watters previously worked as an associate at the venue. Prior to joining AVPartners in 2014, he gained over a decade of experience in the AV industry working as an AV technician and event manager.
Perth Convention Bureau has appointed Nicolle Davey executive director, stakeholder relations. Ms Davey was previously director, business development - associations. She began her career with Ansett Airlines then progressed to the MICE sector within international and national brand hotels, including Mirvac/Accor Hotels. Her most recent role prior to joining PCB in 2017 was with the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre. Ms Davey steps into the role on the departure of Tracey Cinavas-Prosser who served PCB and its membership for over 10 years.
