The proponent of the state’s first surf park is a step closer to making the venue an Olympic training ground, bolstered by a partnership between Aventuur and Surfing WA.
US-based Aventuur today announced a collaboration with the state’s peak surfing body, to offer Surfing WA unparalleled access to the $100 million surf park on a 5.7-hectare lot in Jandakot.
The surf park has an estimated opening date of 2026, with construction expected to start later this year.
Aventuur announced it would partner up with Surfing WA to establish Perth’s first inland boardriders club and to work with state and national organisations to have the park recognised as an Olympic training facility.
Surfing WA chief executive Mark Lane said the surf park would be a great asset for the state.
“The park will provide the ultimate training ground for our Olympic, World Surf League and junior athletes, who can utilise the wavepool and other innovative facilities to prepare for their campaigns,” he said.
“We’re also thrilled to host competitive, cultural and boardriders club events at the Perth Surf Park, and to promote community wellbeing through recreational, adaptive, youth and water safety programs like Surfers Rescue 365.”
Under the partnership, Aventuur would provide Surfing WA access to the surfing lagoon, surf academy and other facilities for competitions, events, and athlete training.
The park’s surf coaches will be certified by Surfing WA with the latter’s members to receive discounted entry fees.
"Our partnership with Surfing WA represents our commitment to create a sporting, leisure and tourism destination that is by the West, for the West,” Aventuur chairman and chief development officer Andrew Ross said.
“In addition to nurturing the next generation of homegrown athletes, we’re excited to provide a hub for boardriders clubs, social surfing groups and aligned charities, and collaborate on meaningful initiatives to better our community – including beach clean-ups, water safety courses and mental wellness, resilience and surf therapy programs.”
The Metro Outer Joint Development Assessment Panel approved Aventuur’s surf park proposal in March 2023.
The state government leased the parcel of land on the corner of Prinsep Road and Knock Way to Aventuur to develop the surf park.
