Dr Eric Tan AM, has been appointed the new Chancellor of Curtin University of Technology.
Dr Tan founded the WA Endosurgical Society and was a Governor of the Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons of Asia Society.
He has trained many of the surgeons and other medical doctors currently practising in Western Australia, and has taught extensively in Asia.
Dr Tan played a key role in the establishment and development of the Oz Concert, and in the establishment of Harmony Day.
Dr Tan also founded the Positive Ageing Foundation, and secured $3 million in government funding to develop a new approach to ageing.
In 1996, Curtin University awarded Dr Tan an Honorary Doctorate of Science for his contribution to community service and medical science.
In 1998, he was an inaugural recipient of the John Curtin Medal for his pioneering work in medicine.
