Attorney-General Christian Porter has announced the appointment of Grant Donaldson as the state's new solicitor-general.
Mr Porter said state Governor Malcolm McCusker had approved Mr Donaldson's appointment and he would begin his new role on Monday.
"Mr Donaldson's varied breadth and quality of legal and courtroom experience make him an ideal permanent appointment to the position," Mr Porter said.
He said Mr Donaldson appreciated wider public policy issues and had experience in commercial, private and criminal law litigation.
Mr Porter thanked Robert Mitchell, who has been acting in the role since June 2011.
The former solicitor-general, Robert Meadows, retired from the position on July 18 last year.
Since 1998, Mr Donaldson has practised as a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2004.
