Not-for-profit Nulsen Group has rebranded as PeopleKind Group and undergone a restructure to help it operate under the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
PeopleKind Group is now the parent company to six organisations: Nulsen Disability Services, Outcare, Melior Positive Behaviour Support, Pillar Support Coordination, Superyou Therapy and Nesti Housing.
Four of the offerings, Melior Positive Behaviour Support, Pillar Support Coordination, Superyou Therapy and Nesti Housing, are new organisations that have been launched over the past 18 months.
The former group, Nulsen, was formed when Nulsen Disability Services acquired justice and reintegration services provider Outcare in 2018.
PeopleKind Group chair Evelyn Hogg said the establishment of the new group was important in responding and adapting to the changing environment for care and support service providers.
“With changes in government policy and the impact this has on how we support people in our community to access care and support, particularly those with complex needs, the creation of PeopleKind Group is important in maintaining our ability to adapt to this new policy environment,” Ms Hogg said.
PeopleKind Group chief executive Gordon Trewern has previously spoken about the group’s difficult transition to the NDIS, particularly due the organisation’s focus on providing supported independent living which has very thin margins.
However, he told Business News the group had recently managed to recover from its loss-making position.
“Through diversification and significant reform of Nulsen Disability Services and fee for service we have managed to go from a regular loss-making position to break-even position this new financial year," Mr Trewern said.
“Our three-year forecast projections should see us moving to a financially sustainable position in those years.
“It still remains a very challenging financial environment in which to operate human services.
"We are aware that anything could change in an instant.”
According to the group’s 2021 financial report, it recorded a small surplus of $47,513.
