Brisbane-based Gary Georgiou has been promoted to lead building and civil construction firm Georgiou Group, succeeding Rob Monaci.
Georgiou Group confirmed Mr Georgiou would be based in Queensland with frequent travel to Perth and Sydney.
The group's outgoing chief executive Rob Monaci was based in Sydney.
Despite sharing the same surname, Mr Georgiou is not related to the firm’s former chief executive and current chair John Georgiou.
Mr Georgiou first joined the company about seven years ago, serving as the group’s executive general manager- eastern region based in Brisbane.
In this role, he was responsible for growing Georgiou’s Queensland and New South Wales businesses.
Prior to this appointment, he worked at Seymour Whyte Group in several roles, including as general manager.
Georgiou Group chair John Georgiou said the appointee had 25 years’ experience in the construction industry and would bring a wealth of knowledge to the chief executive role.
He also thanked Mr Monaci for leading the group through a period of growth, and being a champion of safety, diversity and employee development.
“His leadership has been critical in driving our company values and ensuring the stability of our company, particularly at the height of the COVID pandemic," he said.
The leadership change comes after the group posted strong results in 2021 financial year.
The private business reported it had almost $1.3 billion of work in hand.
Its revenue had increased by $20 million to $628 million, which the group attributed to its east coast expansion and the improving local market conditions.
Mr Georgiou will start on July 1, 2022.
