Plans for a zip line at Matagarup Bridge and a rooftop climb at Optus Stadium are advancing, after the state government shortlisted three potential operators.
The state government said it had called on the three applicants to submit their final plans to run a Matagarup Bridge climb, zip line and Optus Stadium rooftop climb.
Business News understands the three shortlisted applicants are Belgravia Leisure, Saferight and a joint venture between VenuesLive, which operates Optus Stadium, and Bridge Event.
Victoria-based Belgravia operates 170 lesiure and sport centres across Australia and New Zealand, with seven in WA including the Loftus Recreation Centre and Point Walter Golf Course.
Belmont-based Saferight has previously planned to land seaplanes on the Swan River has a tourism venture.
The state government said a zip line would travel 300 metres via cables from the halfway point of Matagarup Bridge to a landing platform on Burswood Peninsula.
It said much of the infrastructure required for the bridge climb and zip line was incorporated into the bridge's design and construction.
The Matagarup Bridge climb would potentially allow patrons to ascend 314 steps to the highest point of the bridge, which is 60 metres above the Swan River.
The Optus Stadium rooftop climb would encompass a 220 step climb to the top of the venue and a 360-degree circumnavigation of the internal perimeter roof.
The state government said proponents would have until September to submit their proposals, with a contract anticipated to be awarded at the end of the year.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said these activities would be a great opportunity to showcase WA-built icons like the Matagarup Bridge to more people
"The time is right for Perth to leverage our landmarks, like Matagarup Bridge, the Swan River and Optus Stadium, to their true potential to help create jobs,” she said.
