Mexican fast food chain Mad Mex holds tight to its WA expansion plan amid five restaurants across Perth closing this week.
Mad Mex restaurants in Midland, Mandurah, Joondalup, Baldivis and at Brookfield Place have closed after liquidators were appointed on Tuesday.
The head office of Mad Mex Fresh Mexican Grill is based in New South Wales.
Despite the closures, Mad Mex chief operating officer Therese Frangie reaffirmed the business’ commitment to WA.
“Unfortunately, the operating market has become very challenging due to COVID and the franchisee has made the difficult decision to exit,” she said.
“However, we have no plans to exit the WA market and hope to reach a fair outcome with landlords and re-open some of these restaurants as soon as possible.”
Australian Securities and Investments Commission documents show Robpop M Investments, Robpop BF, RobpopMF Investments and MM Perth operated the recently closed Mad Mex restaurants.
ASIC records show Popis Investments and Wildtrick Enterprises were behind the four companies, which have been placed in the hands of liquidators Jack James and Paula Smith, from Rodgers Reidy.
Popis Investments is owned by Theodoros Popis, while Tuart Hill residents Tania Roberts and Jason Anthony Roberts own Wildtrick Entreprises.
It is not yet known how much is owed to creditors.
According to the Mad Mex website, the business is advertising franchise opportunities in Perth and Rockingham shopping centre.
A typical investment in Perth is listed as $350,000-$500,000 while the cost in Rockingham is estimated between $250,000-$550,000.
