Legend Mining and the Creasy Group have moved into the next phase of their hunt for a Nova-Bollinger lookalike with the start of an 80-hole aircore drilling program at the Rockford project in the Fraser Range.
The 5,000-metre drill program follows news a fortnight ago of highly encouraging assay results from the partners’ first two diamond drill holes at Rockford, in a location known as Area D.
Assay results included anomalous values of up to 0.18% nickel and 0.15% copper in pentlandite and chalcopyrite respectively. More importantly, these nickel and copper ore minerals were hosted in a cumulate-textured ultramafic, which is a favourable host rock for Nova-Bollinger style deposits.
The results confirm that Rockford has the right geology for a significant nickel-copper sulphide discovery and with 5000 meters of drilling about to commence, if there is something there, Legend have a good chance of finding it.
The new drill program is regional in scope and will uncover a lot of big-picture information about the regolith profile, basement lithologies and the lithogeochemical signature of the basement rocks.
It is centered on eight geophysical anomalies that have been developed from detailed aeromagnetic gravity data and EM surveys.
The program is estimated to take 3-4 weeks to complete, with assay results expected 3-4 weeks later.
The geological and assay results from the aircore drilling will be combined with the result of high-powered, airborne, electromagnetic surveys that have been underway since August to generate the next round of RC diamond drilling targets.
With considerably more exploration knowledge about Rockford now guiding these holes, the partners have dramatically improved their chances of a significant hit at Rockford.
