Legend Mining has discovered an EM conductor lurking within shouting distance of its impressive, recently announced nickel/copper/cobalt drill hole at the Mawson prospect in the Fraser Range. Legend’s latest exploration work at Mawson unearthed over 70 meters of sulphide mineralisation, including 14.9 meters with solid nickel-copper-cobalt grades.
A modelled “off-hole” electromagnetic anomaly that points to a possible extension of the mineralised zone will be targeted around March.
Legend said this week that the logging of its latest diamond drill hole also defined an “in-hole” electromagnetic anomaly that coincided with the 70m of nickel-copper-cobalt mineralisation seen in the diamond drill core.
The off-hole EM anomaly or “conductor” has been interpreted from the logging data via computer modelling. The company said the newly identified off-hole conductor is considered a high priority drill target given its strong amplitude and interpreted position down dip of the sulphide mineralisation intersected in the previous drill hole.
The off-hole feature is located below the hole trace and approximately 80m down dip to the southwest of the sulphide mineralisation. The company said it is interpreted to be hosted within the same mafic/ultramafic intrusive.
Legend will drill a 300m diamond drill hole to test the off-hole conductor and underlying basal contact between the mafic/ultramafic intrusive and metasediment.
Managing Director of Legend Mining, Mark Wilson said: “The diamond drill hole to test this off-hole conductor at Mawson will be the first hole drilled in the upcoming March drill programme. The modelled strength and location with respect to the known mineralisation in hole 007 makes this a compelling target.”
This exciting prospective addition to the Mawson nickel-copper-cobalt discovery will be keenly watched during March this year and it will be interesting to see just how far Legend can extend this lucrative looking mineralised zone.
