The southern-most Hurley prospect in Legend Mining’s Rockford Northwest property is showing signs it could become another key target for the nickel-sulphide specialist explorer. The prospect, which sits in the heartland of the Albany Fraser belt in Western Australia near the doorstep of the Nova nickel-copper plant, has returned early assays with anomalous results for nickel, copper and cobalt.
ASX-listed Legend Mining has been one of the success stories among specialist explorers in recent times operating in the heartland of the Albany Fraser belt of Western Australia which houses the Nova nickel-copper mining operations for IGO Ltd.
Legend has some of its north-eastern licences on its large Rockford project joint ventured with IGO but retains 100 per cent ownership of its more southern permits closer to the Nova mining operations.
The anomalous results returned from early aircore assay were principally found in four holes at Hurley, where elevated nickel-copper can be associated with mafic intrusive and metasediment-granulite. These holes sit adjacent to an H3 conductor “making this a priority target for deep drill testing.” according to the company.
The first batch of assays from this shallow drilling are part of a 291-hole program which was completed in late November.
Legend’s managing director Mark Wilson said the first assays – from the up-dip projection of Hurley’s H3 conductor – are seen as “further enhancement of the prospectivity of Hurley”.
Closer-spaced aircore drilling will take place on these three target areas next year and the truth serum of diamond drilling will also be prioritised next year.
The latest aircore drilling also took in the Crean target, adjacent to Hurley.
Legend said this latest program is part of an ongoing systematic strategy of identifying and testing new targets at Rockford.
“The geochemical review of the Rockford project, which identified Hurley as a priority prospect, is continuing to identify new targets.” the company said.
As well as having IGO as a major shareholder and joint venture partner on some of its Rockford leases, former vendor and one of Australia’s most successful explorers Mark Creasy continues as a key shareholder and ally of Legend Mining.
