Kat Gap still wide open for Classic

Classic Minerals has been busy drilling away at its Kat Gap project near Southern Cross, with the latest RC program producing some high-quality assay results, highlighted by drilling south of a “proterozoic dyke” that has now confirmed that the prospective geological structure continues south.

Best numbers are 6m grading 11.54g/t gold from 20m including 2m at 25.95g/t and 3m grading 8.31g/t gold from 26m in another hole.

A total of 12 closely spaced RC drill holes covered about 80m worth of strike along the Kat Gap prospective granite-greenstone geological contact and were sited north of the proterozoic dyke and six were sited to the south.  The holes were designed to test the currently defined, high-grade gold shoots down plunge.

Proterozoic dykes are generally flat or sheet-like igneous rocks that have cut through the Archean basement rocks and sometimes wipe out anything in their path. They will often displace and redistribute the local mineralisation.

Other notable results from the latest campaign to the north of the proterozoic dyke include 3m grading 8.31g/t from 26m downhole and 3m grading 13.18g/t gold from 143m in a separate hole. These numbers appear to illustrate that the mineralised system starts reasonably close to surface and is still going at depth.

Kat Gap is located about 70km south-southeast of the ASX listed company’s flagship Forrestania gold project, where a tidy resource of 7.27 million tonnes grading 1.33g/t contains nearly 321,000 ounces of gold. On a map. Forrestania sits neatly between Southern Cross and Ravensthorpe in WA.

The company says that the results from the drilling potentially point to a gently plunging, high grade gold shoot, controlled by the location and orientation of the granite-greenstone contact.

Classic CEO Dean Goodwin said: “I’ve seen this type of structure before in the Forrestania area so it’s not surprising to see it at Kat Gap.”

Classic has not previously focussed much on the southern side of the proterozoic dyke which makes these latest numbers quite exciting as they point to a whole new area of interest.

Mr Goodwin said: “The next RC program will focus not only on the northern strike but also the southern strike potential for at least 100m to 200m.

If we have similar numbers south of the dyke, then we could be looking at something really special with strike lengths in excess of 900m in total.

Deeper step out holes will also be drilled around the most recent holes on the northern side of the dyke to gain a better understanding of the potential extent of the flat plunging system.”

Classic ploughed nearly 10,000 meters worth of drilling into its 100% owned Kat Gap project between May 2018 and November 2019 with all seven campaigns in total turning up notable high-grade gold hits.

The drilling has covered about 400m along the granite-greenstone geological contact to a vertical depth of about 60m.

Classic can smell blood now at Kat Gap and it has the truth diviner working double-time churning out a swag of solid numbers – if it can continue to table drill results that boast both grade and length, Kat Gap might just turn out to be harbouring a solid and potentially company making resource.
