Kalgoorlie Gold Mining has delivered another confidence-boosting result at its Lighthorse discovery, part of the company’s Pinjin project, with fresh RC drilling almost doubling the strike length of primary gold mineralisation. The work confirms the system is sourced from depth, remains open to the north and is shaping up as a large-scale orogenic gold target within WA’s prolific Laverton Tectonic Zone.
Kalgoorlie Gold Mining has given the market a timely reminder that scale matters in gold exploration after its latest drilling results at the company’s Pinjin gold project in WA’s eastern Goldfields after almost doubled the strike length of the primary gold mineralisation to 1.1 kilometres.
Work at Kalgold’s Lighthorse prospect is rapidly revealing a big shear-hosted system sourced from depth that remains open to the north and is shaping up as a large-scale orogenic gold target within WA’s prolific Laverton Tectonic Zone.
One 15m drill hit came in at 1.14 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 84 m and included an 11-metre section at 1.51g/t gold from 84 m. Another 35m intersection, whilst modest in grade at 0.33 g/t gold was mineralised for 35m from 90 and another 9-metre slice graded 0.76 g/t gold from 92m, within a broader 35m zone going at 0.42 g/t gold from 78m.
Interestingly, the reverse circulation (RC) drilling appears to have tied a broad, near-surface gold anomaly directly to a primary gold source at depth.
Earlier aircore drilling at the start of the year lit the fuse on KalGold’s share price, rocketing it 500 per cent to almost 10 cents after the company unearthed a 1.6km-long gold-in-soil anomaly, highlighted by standout sub-surface hits such as 8m at 9.21g/t gold and 4m at 4.72g/t.
The big question however, was always whether that gold had been transported or sourced from something more meaningful below. The answer now appears to be firmly in the latter camp.
Drilling intersected thick zones of gold mineralisation in fresh rock, closely associated with extensive shearing, alteration, sulphide development and quartz veining – all classic hallmarks of a genuine orogenic gold system.
Equally important was the discovery of a strong correlation between gold mineralisation and a pronounced conductivity ridge identified by Sub-Audio Magnetic surveying. The company says the most consistent and thickest gold zones appear to line up neatly with this geophysical feature, which continues beyond the current limit of drilling to the north.
The company also took the opportunity to conduct some RC drilling at its nearby Wessex and Providence South sites. Here too, the drill bit intersected primary gold, further reinforcing the broader prospectivity of the Pinjin project area.
Meanwhile, a diamond rig has been let loose on the company’s nearby Kirgella Gift and Providence prospects, with assays pending.
KalGold is quietly building what looks like a compelling position along the southern end of the Laverton Tectonic Zone, which is one of Western Australia’s most prolific gold corridors and home to multiple multi-million-ounce deposits. Its Pinjin project sits just along strike from Ramelius Resources’ Rebecca 1.1-million-ounce gold project, which adds a healthy dose of regional credibility to the exploration model.
With infill and step-out RC drilling already planned for early 2026, and deeper holes likely to test the true vertical extent of the system, Lighthorse is fast evolving from a promising discovery into a legitimate large-scale gold target.
