KalGold commences maiden diamond drilling program

Perth based gold explorer Kalgoorlie Gold Mining or KalGold has launched a diamond drill program to further characterise gold mineralisation and to inform future JORC 2012 resource estimates. The move follows a string of successes at its La Mascotte prospect within the company’s flagship Bulong Taurus project, 35 kilometres east of Kalgoorlie in WA.

An RC rig is also set to join the party in late April or early May to keep the campaign going.

The program is expected to comprise up to seven holes for an aggregate 875m with the aim of complementing results from a recent RC campaign at La Mascotte. Some of the diamond holes are planned to be sunk adjacent to recent exploration in areas that intersected strong alteration consistent with gold mineralisation.

Results from the RC program that occurred in January this year are due back from the assay lab imminently and are expected to delineate the best areas to target with the diamond rig. The program is primarily designed to advance the La Mascotte prospect through collecting high quality data in order to define a maiden resource estimate.

Diamond results will also be an integral component informing the design and implementation of a forthcoming phase 3 RC program that is expected to commence in late April or early May. Once the rig has finished peppering the Bulong tenure the company plans on retaining it and sending it over to the nearby Ninga Mia gold project on the outskirts of Kalgoorlie-Boulder where several newly generated targets have been defined.

Kalgoorlie Gold Mining Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Matthew Painter said: “KalGold expects analysis of the drill core to assist in clearly defining controls on gold mineralisation, provide geotechnical data and define new targets.”

“We aim to define the extent of near-outcropping gold mineralisation and its depth extensions within the Bulong Taurus project so that we can define a maiden JORC 2012 resource estimate.”

Whilst diamond drilling continues to delineate further ounces and provide information about the structural controls of the gold at La Mascotte, the surrounding mineralised surface footprint continues to expand with numerous targets coming online thanks to results recently obtained from widespread auger drilling throughout the greater Bulong Taurus project.

Although Bulong Taurus continues to be the primary focus for KalGold, its other WA projects are also set to get some time in the limelight with the Ninga Mia project next in line to feel the bite of the drill bit. The project sits directly to the north of the world-famous golden mile hosting the Kalgoorlie super pit and has numerous targets that have never previously been investigated despite its world-class postcode.

Drilling seems to be a high priority for the junior gold explorer who has been peppering its tenure since listing late last year. Despite industry wide assay delays slowing targeting efforts, the geological signs are strong – and with a flurry of assays set to flow back imminently the Bulong Taurus gold project could be about to heat up.
