Kairos Minerals aims to kick off an aircore drilling program at its Skywell gold project in WA’s Pilbara region in the current quarter after analysis of its 2020 geochemical and airborne geophysics results highlighted multiple intrusion-related gold targets south-west of the exciting Hemi intrusive-style gold find.
The company recently set up camp at nearby Kangan and expects to start 5,000 metres of aircore drilling there within weeks after generating four key intrusive-style targets from geochemical and airborne magnetic surveys and gaining heritage clearance.
Similar preliminary work at Skywell has now thrown up 12 targets and Kairos is progressing heritage surveys with the aim of getting the aircore rig active soon. Six of nine new targets announced this week are said to have the intrusive-style gold mineralisation association that makes them priority drill targets.
Skywell, Kangan and Mt York, where Kairos is about to start 20,000m of reverse circulation drilling aimed at adding to its 873,500 ounce JORC resource, are part of the company’s wholly-owned Pilbara gold project south of Port Hedland.
An extensive regional and international study and survey effort in 2020 has given Kairos a high-quality data suite with which to step up its Pilbara gold search. Survey information from airborne magnetic and radiometric surveys combined with field sampling and mapping gave Kairos geologists a dataset to compare with worldwide intrusion-related gold systems, or “IRGS” and they have used the insight gained to zero in on the Jallogoonina Stock sanukitoid intrusion mapped in the Skywall area.
Soil sampling returned geochemical anomalies coincident with six key intrusion magnetic features.
Critically, says Kairos, the Skywell sanukitoid intrusion also has the Mallina Basin host-rock sediments that characterise De Grey Mining’s Hemi and other mineralised intrusions.
De Grey’s 356,000oz Towerana, 28km away, is the closest defined intrusion-related gold deposit to Skywell.
That discovery for De Grey shot its share price skywards from 5c to $1.55.
Kairos will now look to gain heritage clearance and approvals to start drilling in the northernmost part of its Skywell tenement block closest to the De Grey ground.
Executive Chairman of Kairos, Terry Topping said: “Our 2021 exploration field season is now well and truly stepping up a gear, with activity levels increasing across all of our key projects.”
“Multiple targets, multiple news-flow streams and, we hope, multiple opportunities to make a significant discovery.”
The cashed-up junior, which had more than A$9 million in the bank at the end of March this year, is among the largest Pilbara exploration landholders with its 1,547 square kilometres of tenure.
Kangan, Skywell and other targets are the bullseyes the company sought from its high-quality 2020 technical groundwork.
