Former Australian Test batter Justin Langer has resigned as a director of Mineral Resources.
Mineral Resources chair Malcolm Bundey says the Chris Ellison-founded company is continuing its process of appointing new non-executive directors to its board.
The comments come following news on Wednesday that Justin Langer - an accomplished former Australian and Western Australian cricket player and coach - had resigned from the company's board, effective immediately.
In an ASX statement to the market, Mr Langer outlined the rationale behind his decision to depart the board.
“With my expanding commitments both in Australia and overseas, I am not in a position to continue to give the time and focus that I believe MinRes deserves," he said.
"I thank Chris Ellison and the board for their understanding of my position and I look forward to observing MinRes enter its next chapter.”
Appointed to the board in January 2023, Mr Langer signed on as coach of the Lucknow Super Giants, an Indian Premier League-based T20 side, four months later.
Earlier this year, he was also appointed coach of the London Spirit, a T-10 based franchise competing in the ‘The Hundred’ – a new shortened form of cricket in the UK.
Along with his coaching interests, Mr Langer also has a variety of public speaking and media-based commitments. He also sits on the board of the West Coast Eagles.
Mr Bundey began his role as MinRes chair on July 1, following news in May that he had been appointed to succeed James McClements.
A few days later, he told the market that the appointments of Ross Carroll and Lawrie Tremaine was a reflection of “my immediate priorities as chair” as the company aims to come through the other side of a turbulent period.
In April, Jacqueline McGill and Susie Corlett resigned from the MinRes board, with the company not providing an explanation for their departures at the time.
MinRes last traded at $33.59, up 2 per cent, as of 10.13am AWST.
