From Port Hedland to Karratha and out to Newman, Boom Logistics has spent a quarter of a century building a permanent footprint across Western Australia’s North West, and continues to invest significantly in the region to support clients at the highest levels of performance and compliance.
Today, Boom is established as a long-term partner to the mining sector, delivering reliably with precision across some of the state’s most demanding environments, while investing in asset regeneration and expansion to strengthen our capability to support mining clients with high-performance equipment. Our focus on targeted capital investment in our fleet reflects a long-term commitment to supporting our clients from early-stage construction through to critical shutdown and maintenance works.
Early-stage infrastructure construction
The Havieron Project in East Pilbara is a major underground gold-copper development where we were engaged to support the construction of early-stage infrastructure, including the underground portal tunnel.
Located approximately 450 kilometres from Port Hedland, the project required a fully integrated lifting solution, including engineering, planning and execution to support the installation of base structures and tunnel components.
At the centre of the works was the installation of arch sections forming part of the tunnel structure, a complex project requiring synchronised dual-crane lifts at extended radii. Using the Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 and LTM 1650-8.1 cranes, we executed coordinated lifts of approximately 15-tonne sections at a 75-metre radius, a task requiring detailed engineering, precision control and close coordination across crews.
Delivering at this scale required careful planning and remote mobilisation across the Pilbara, with equipment transported along regional logistics corridors while navigating access constraints and evolving weather and site conditions. Flexibility was also critical, with lift sequencing and crane configurations adapted in real time to suit changing ground conditions and construction requirements.
The works were completed safely and without incident, reflecting our strong safety culture as well as rigorous operational standards throughout the business. The Havieron Project demonstrates Boom’s ability to delivery complex lifting solutions with precision, while maintaining the highest levels of compliance, safety, and technical excellence, even in the most challenging conditions.
The backbone of mining shutdowns
Across the Pilbara, we support large-scale shutdown operations spanning between seven and 14 days, involved more than 100 staff, and where downtime directly impacts production and revenue. These shutdowns are highly coordinated, resource-intensive operations delivered within tightly defined timeframes.
Beyond equipment provision, we deliver a fully integrated solution combining lifting, labour, transport and logistics into a single coordinated execution model.
The Boom fleet supporting these works include heavy lift cranes such as the Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 in its 800-tonne class configuration, along with a broader mix of 100 to 450-tonne all-terrain cranes and 25-tonne Franna units.
The work itself is varied and time-critical for our mining partners to continue operations. Shutdown activities include conveyor belt maintenance and replacement works, lifting belt reels of up to 60 tonnes, installation and maintenance of plant infrastructure such as chutes, deflectors, drives, gearboxes, crushers, screens and structural components.
Shutdowns operate on tight timeframes where every hour of downtime carries significant cost, alongside managing large workforces across congested sites vulnerable to environmental factors such as wind and access constraints.
Despite these pressures, we consistently deliver shutdowns on time or ahead of schedule. Detailed planning and rapid deployment capability allow us to mobilise our cranes, crews and equipment efficiently across remote Western Australian operations, ensuring operational continuity for our clients in the safest and shortest timeframe.

Investing in our fleet and people
Continued investment in our fleet remains central to our long-term strategy. Over the last five years, we have invested more than $60 million in fleet regeneration across Australia, strengthening our capability through modern, high-performance equipment.
This includes deploying more than 20 new cranes in the North West, along with ongoing investment in transport and support equipment. A key focus for us has been maintaining a modern fleet, with an average age of under five years, reducing downtime risk and ensuring we are operating with reliable, fit-for-purpose equipment on site.
Our fleet capability allows us to support a wide range of project requirements, from early stage construction through to critical shutdown and maintenance works. More importantly, it enables us to mobilise efficiently and allocate resources where they are needed most, and deliver consistently across multiple projects.
Beyond the fleet, our strength ultimately comes down to our people. Across every project, our teams bring a depth of experience and ownership, enabling us to deliver practical, solutions-focused outcomes. Our relationship-driven approach is embedded across the business, from planning to execution, allowing us to consistently deliver safely and ahead of schedule, reinforcing our role as a long-term partner to the mining sector.
