Hammer Metals has started an induced polarisation, or “IP”, survey at its Bronzewing South gold project in Western Australia to refine potential drilling targets that were identified during an initial field reconnaissance.
Bronzewing South is located immediately south and adjacent to Echo Resources’ 4 million ounce Bronzewing mine.
Sulphides are commonly associated with gold mineralisation at the Bronzewing mine, and the IP survey is expected to help detect sulphide-rich zones and assist in the drill hole targeting.
The first stage of the survey will test about 30% of the prospective area and if successful, the second stage will test the entire mineralised corridor.
First results from the survey are expected in early August.
Hammer has also started the permitting process for the drilling campaign, which is expected to begin later this month.
Bronzewing Southwas acquired earlier this year and is directly adjacent to existing infrastructure, including Echo’s 2 million tonne per annum Bronzewing processing plant, which is currently on care and maintenance.
Despite this, the project area is relatively underexplored due to the transported cover that conceals the geology beneath and ranges in thickness from 2m to 40m.
While most previous exploration drilling was shallow and did not consider the structural framework inherent for the Bronzewing area, the limited deeper drilling that was carried out did confirm zones of high-grade gold mineralisation in bedrock positions.
Interpretation of the collected geophysical survey data will be keenly anticipated by Hammer in the upcoming period.
