The Department of Education has awarded Byte Construct a $15 million contract for work at Caversham Primary, one of the schools to be upgraded under funding allocated in this year's state budget.
Under the contract, Applecross-based Byte will build a two-storey teaching block at the school’s campus at 65 Coast Road.
The state government allocated $26.5 million in the 2024-25 state budget towards the double-storey classroom block at Caversham Primary School.
Caversham primary was one of the schools covered under a record $6.8 billion commitment in the 2024-25 state budget announced in May 2024.
TendersWA shows the contract value is estimated at $15.58 million.
Tender documents show the project covers construction of permanent accommodation to the Caversham Primary School site, to replace 12 transportable classrooms at the southern end of the campus.
The existing blocks were constructed in several stages between the 1980s and mid-2010s, according to the documents.
“The project objectives are [to] accommodate current and projected growth within the rapidly growing Caversham area,” the documents read.
The two-storey teaching block is expected to maintain student access to outdoor learning and play spaces, the documents said.
“The new building is to be constructed to allow the removal of transportable classrooms off site to house all students in permanent accommodation,” the documents read.
“Additional to the new building works, is a new staff parking precinct and construction of an associated wetland drainage swale adjacent the new building, as well as a new two-court multi-purpose hardcourt, new landscaping, new playground, new pumped sewerage (to replace existing septic), new Western Power transformer within a precast concrete compound, new bin store and new fire hydrant and DFES hardstand.”
In another recent tender, the state government also awarded Duratec Limited a $4.6 million contract for aluminium composite panel cladding work at North Metropolitan TAFE on Aberdeen Street.
