Marine infrastructure services business Maritime Constructions has been selected by the state government to improve navigation aids for boaters visiting Rottnest Island.
The Fremantle-based company has been awarded a $2.3 million contract from the Department of Transport to replace 11 navigation aids around the island, including at Thomson, Rocky and Geordie bays.
Work will start in October and is expected to be finished in time for summer.
"This is an important and timely navigational safety project that will provide benefits to the island's visitors whether they are arriving on a commercial ferry or their own recreational craft,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
The department was working with the Rottnest Island Authority to complete the project, she said.
Maritime Constructions has previously completed navigation replacement and installation works at ports in South Australia and the Northern Territory, as well as undertaken upgrades in Western Australia’s north-west, including at the Onslow Marine Support Base.
